UNITY IS STRENGTH

February 24, 2009 · No Comments · Uncategorized

It’s really quite simple. You won’t find a computer chip embedded within it. It was not formulated in a laboratory by a scientist with his doctorate in Physics. Batteries and electricity need not apply. It’s impossible to “log on” to it or text message with it. It’s so much more…

It’s a yellow rubber Lance Armstrong LiveStrong wristband. I believe this is one of the greatest inventions because it has connected people throughout the world. Not only does it show support for people with cancer, it represents unity and hope in mankind. The goal of the wristband is to inspire and empower people. Not many high-tech inventions can say that. LiveStrong touches a powerful part of the heart. It speaks to each person in a personal and unique way, but the “power of the yellow” ties our common emotions together. In my own life, I know several people that are battling with cancer. When I see other people wearing a LiveStrong, it lifts my spirits. Others are fighting with me and my relatives. The LiveStrong has connected us.

When I wear my LiveStrong, I find myself smiling at others who are wearing one too. It’s a smile of understanding, compassion and kindness. There’s an unspoken bond among its wearers. You just feel it…and you know. It’s a silent whisper of support. The wristband promotes a feeling of empathy among humans, which is so much more important than the latest speed of internet DSL or how many miles per gallon the new hybrid car reaches. It overlooks age, racial background, financial status or social rank. LiveStrong ignites a spark among all types of people, which is more powerful than any high-tech computer chip. We can have the fastest computers, state-of-the-art cell phones, the latest vaccinations or ultra-modern gizmos, but none of those do us any good without the vast feeling of compassion and understanding among each other.
